Overview

The Warren Guest House is comfortable and a real home from home for guests. In the 19th century it was trading as the Star Inn, before closing in 1933. Southern terminus of Carlisle Tramways was was nearby. It has been extended and improved a lot since that time, but still has a unique character both inside and outside. It is not known how it acquired the name of The Warren, but the name has a quirky appeal.

The Warren is the first place to stay on Warwick Road, coming in from the M6 Motorway Junction 43 or A69 from Newcastle. Carlisle is a city between two World Heritage Sites, and an ideal touring base for the Northern Lake District, Scottish Borders, and Hadrians Wall.
Historic centre of Carlisle has a castle, cathedral, and museums to visit. Tullie House exhibits information about the Border Reivers.

There are a variety of sporting and leisure activities to enjoy. Carlisle United football ground is further up Warwick Road. The Sands Centre hosts a full program of musical and theatrical events throughout the year.
Centre of the city is traffic free providing a safe shopping experience, and The Lanes Shopping Centre is worth seeing.

Carlisle has long been a railway hub. It is on the West Coast main line between London and Glasgow. Local lines take passengers to Newcastle, Cumbrian Coast, or the famed Carlisle to Settle route. Steam specials run regularly. Flights from Carlisle Airport to Dublin and to London Southend start in June of this year with carrier Loganair.

Central Carlisle has a feel of cafe culture, which carries over to a great night time experience.

Ample guest parking is available at The Warren. Central area of Carlisle is an easy walk from The Warren, and a regular bus service runs for benefit of those who would rather ride.
Anita and Jimmy are ready to make your visit to our city and surrounding countryside as good as it could possibly be.
