Overview

We have 8 quirky, individual rooms above the pub. The rooms are spread across the pub and therefore across the centuries. They are all different shapes and styles, with each carefully furnished with a mixture of contemporary furniture and local antiques. You’ll find Egyptian cotton sheets on the large comfortable beds. Each room has a flat-screen TV, a range of cruelty-free & vegan-friendly Bramley bathroom products and tea & coffee making facilities.

Our quintessentially beautiful English village is a quiet backwater at the foot of the 712ft Firle Beacon within the South Downs National Park. Part of the Firle Estate, home of the Gage family for over 500 years, the Ram sits at the centre of the village and is an easy stroll from Firle Place, the cricket ground, village Post Office and St Peters church. Surrounded by the beautiful rolling hills of the South Downs National Park, one of the most important chalk landscapes in the country, walk to Firle Beacon to enjoy panoramic views of the sea, downland, and the castle at Lewes. With access to over 100 miles of walking and cycling along the South Downs Way, we are a perfect stop-off point. For the less adventurous, there are circular walks to suit everyone from the pub. The beauty of the village and surrounding countryside has attracted artists & writers for generations, most famously the writer Virginia Woolf and her sister, the painter and designer Vanessa Bell who lived at Charleston Farmhouse, a favourite haunt of the Bloomsbury group. The renowned opera house at Glyndebourne is nearby. Shop for antiques in the quirky local town of Lewes or spend the day by the sea in nearby Brighton.
